Let's Ketchup...

Hey babes, how was your weekend? Mine was...okay. I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping so I had to take sleeping pills for the first time in my life (they were all-natural of course!). It took me about 1 1/2 hours to get to sleep before I took the pills so I was very tired. Then I woke up at 7am because I can't sleep any later than that. My mom had also been noticing a lack of energy and big dark circles under my eyes. She said I have a high risk of being anemic because it runs in the family so now I'm taking an iron supplement to see if that's the problem.

I did get to review a couple fabulous products though! Dulcet Cuisine is a great company that sells exotic ketchup, marinades, dressings, mustard, and sauces. I was lucky enough to sample the 3 ketchup flavors Sweet Orange Chile, Peppery Moroccan, and Mild Indian Curry. Hmm, what would be the perfect vehicle for shoveling delicious ketchup into my mouth?

Sweet Potato Fries of course! The Peppery Moroccan was my very favorite. I could really taste the cumin and garlic which I adored with the rich smokey tomato flavor. Next up was the Sweet Orange Chile. The orange wasn't too prominent, just a hint under the chili flavor. I loved this one too because the orange gave it a little zing that most ketchup doesn't have. The Mild Indian Curry was my least favorite. It was good, but I feel like it could be better. It was oily and a little thin, even after I shook the bottle. The flavor was nothing special either, I feel like I could have added curry powder to regular ketchup and it would have tasted the same. I haven't seen these around in grocery stores but if you see them, give them a try! It's a lovely change from regular old ketchup.

Here are a couple random pictures of eats from the past 2 days. Pictured above is Oatgurt, one of my favorite foods now. I topped this bowl with cinnamon, coconut milk, and a little Crumble Topping I whipped up. For the topping I used 2 tbsp shredded coconut, 1 tbsp sunflower seeds, and some stevia (review coming soon!). I ground that up in the FP, then drizzled in water until it came together. Yum.

For this morning's breakfast, I made Kristen's Holiday Chia Pudding. I left out the dates and used stevia instead, and then topped my serving with Raw AB. It was delicious and gave me a boost to start my day.

On the way to work, I ate the new Peanut Butter & Jelly Larabar. This is one of my favorite flavors so far! It had that amazing texture and taste of the PB Cookie flavor, but with chunks of dried cherries, which made it taste JUST LIKE a PB&J. I only have one more flavor to sample, but I can tell this one is a winner.

When I got home from work today, I saw that I had a birthday package in the mail. It turned out to be a new Yoga Mat from my family down in AZ. Now, I do yoga all the time but have never had a mat until now! Crazy, right?! I'll snap a photo later, but right now I'm going to get in the shower, watch the new (intense-looking) J&K+8, then get to bed. I have another long day at work tomorrow and want to get my sleep. 'Night loves <3

That ketchup looks REALLY good. I stopped eating ketchup for a long time because all my family bought was the cheap kind with tons of preservatives and HFCS. But, last week I was in Kroger and bought their organic brand...and let me tell you, it tasted so good. I'm going to make some sweet potato fries very soon. :)

And that new Lara Bar looks good, too. I am a big fan of PB&J...but who isn't? Haha

Oh, and I am a new blogger. If you have time you could check out my blog. ;) Thanks!

Just wanted to pass on a tip because I was severely anemic, and it sucked! Migraines five days a week, nauseua yuckiness. Try to take a b-12 supplement that says sublingual. It's hard for the body to absorb the iron so the sublingual you put under your tongue to dissolve and it becomes more bioavailable. :) Feel good!

The flavored ketchup looks like fun! What did ya think of John and Kate Plus 8? I know everyone wants to hate on Kate. But, I still love her. Her major Type A personality and parenting style remind me off myself!

It is officially time that I tell you what a joy I get to read your blog daily. So young, and so creative with your food choices. I love it. I'm a new bloggian, but I finally decided the time was due to tell you that I get so pumped to read your blogs. BTW - I know you didn't start this, but it was your blog that informed me about the bliss that is oatgurt. It is gettin' crusty as I type this! Thank You!

I'd love to try that oatgurt!

My mom is anemic, and she experiences what you described. She can't sleep very deeply or for very long. She tends to get tired throughout the day, and the only makeup she ever wears is concealer for darkness under her eyes. I think doctors tend to blame it on not getting iron from meat, but that shouldn't be the case. My mom eats meat; I don't. She's anemic; I'm not!

Hopefully you'll find what your body needs to brighten up again!

That ketchup sounds great, I bet the peppery Morrocan would be my favorite too. The flavor combination sounds too good to be true!

I'm actually heading out the door for yoga pretty soon, it makes me happy to hear about your new yoga mat! YAY!

i never thought i'd find ketchup so intriguing. i don't think i could afford a specialty ketchup, BUT i could use my superpowers to play around with homemade ketchup. i think sarah kramer has a recipe in one of her cook books.

when i can't sleep i like making a big cup o' chammomile tea, on the strong side with some agave. works every time. i've used skull cap before, but not since i'm pregnant. have you ever heard of that herb?

Shelby,
So sorry about the sleeping issues. I know you probably take B12 supplements. Just make sure not to take them or eat/drink anything fortified with B12 close to bedtime. It can keep you awake as B12 give you energy. I won't even drink kombucha later in the day or I can't sleep.

I am so excited about those ketchups and will definitely be on the lookout. All the flavors sound delicious to me. Thanks for the review.

Your oatgurt looks like it turned out perfectly. When you get it right, isn't it sooo yummy? Loved your creative topping too.

Yay for a new yoga mat. It's about time my friend!

Crap, I missed Jon & Kate. :(

Oooh, fancy ketchup. I think the moroccan one sounds the best to me as well. I bet it would go with a variety of foods really well.

I hope those new larabar flavours make their way up to Canada soon. They all sound so tasty.

Is there as much sugar in that ketchup as regular ketchup? Also where do you get it from?

shelby said...

Patrick @ His N' Her Health- There is about 3 grams per serving which is a tablespoon. I'm not sure if that is like regular ketchup or not.
You can go to http://www.dulcetcuisine.com/dulcet-findus.htm
or shop online if you cannot find it in stores.
