Epic Eats

Hello sweets! Sorry about being MIA yesterday, blogger was not letting me upload any photos. Grr. These past 2 days have been so relaxing though. Yesterday I painted my nails outside in the sunshine (finally!) and today I cleaned and organized my room. It's the little things in life =)

I have also been such a Snackface these past 2 days! I don't know if its all the raw food I've been eating or (hopefully) a growth spurt, but I've just been snacking non-stop! A lot of it has been fresh fruit, carrots with nut butter, and those raw crackers that I have now run out of.

What is that little bundle of yum?

A couple days ago, I received a couple birthday packages...one being Gina's Famous Macaroons. I really can't say enough about how delicious these are. So sweet, rich, and perfect for snacking or for a light dessert. I have already gone through half the batch and hope to make the rest last another week or so (okay, maybe that's pushing it...probably 3 days). Thank you so much Gina! I love them and the card was so cute!

I also got a birthday package from Katrina! A sweet card, Banana Peanut Butter, and a CD by Francesca Battistelli. I haven't gotten a chance to try the PB but I can just imagine how amazing it tastes. The CD is lovely and while I'm not religious, I love her voice. Katrina, you are such a sweetheart, thank you so much for the gifts!

Last by certainly not least, was a sweet little card from my love, Erin. You are so special to me hun, and don't worry that the card was late...I still love you anyway =)

Next are some meals featuring those Raw Pizza Crackers shown in this post:
A small appetizer-style plate for dinner. Pizza Crackers spread with Gena's Pizza Cheese and steamed broccoli.
I also had the best salad ever for lunch today. Using the S&M Salad recipe from Living Raw Foods, my lunch was filled with healthy fats, protein, and many essential nutrients. I only made one change to the recipe which was to switch out macadamia nut oil for coconut oil because I didn't have any of the former on hand.

Right now, I'm experiencing a dilemma. My blender is leaking and we have no replacement! Instead of buying a new one from the store, I'm thinking of getting a high-powered one. The problem is...do I go with the Vita-Mix or the Blendtec?! I heard many good things about both and have gotten some great advice, but I want to know what you all think and what your experiences are with them. Hopefully I can make my decision soon and get back to green smoothie chugging ;)

The kind folks over at Nature's Path shared in an e-mail that while recent studies have been done to prove that Organic Foods are not any more nutritious than Non-Organic, Organic food IS superior. You can check out the video here. What do you think about Organic vs. Non-Organic? I stick to the Dirty Dozen when shopping so I can save money but still be cautious about pesticides and what I put into my body.

And now I'm hungry again! I swear, I just ate dinner like an hour and a half ago! Off to go snack, I hope you all are enjoying your weekend!

Gina's macaroons + Gena's pizza cheese + S&M salad = sensational eats!!

GO WITH THE BLENDTEC!!!! I've used both and find that the BlendTec is much more reliable/sturdier.

Enjoy your snack and evening, dear Shelby :-)

I would definitely say Blendtec- I struggled with my decision for a long time but I am really happy I chose Blendtec. I have never had any problem with it! I use it almost every day, too!

Vita :)

Everything looks amazing. Love the appetizer plate. That should totally be on every restaurant menu. So much better that nachos or fried cheese sticks!

I absolutely love my Vita Mix and think it's amazing! Yet, I think that both machines are probably just fine and fairly comparable. I imagine it is really more about personal preference, but that you will be happy with either. They're both high-powered which is the main thing you're looking for.

i hear excellent things about Vita...
I personally like the taste and quality of organic produce but I am not too picky...

I almost can't comment, I am so jealous. Macaroons, raw crackers and now a Vita Mix/Blend Tec?!

Life is good, sister. Live it up!!!

Those raw pizza crackers look AMAZING! :) I definitely agree that organic foods are better for you. I heard once that you should "Eat only what your great grandmother would have eaten when she was little." It sounds kind of funny, but it makes sense! There were no chemicals, artificial sweeteners, or preservatives 100 years ago. I just wish I had more money so I could buy organic products! I honestly can never buy them because I'm on a very tight budget :(

raw coconut macaroons are amazing. there's seriously nothing like them! and i buy pretty much everything organic. all my fruits and veggies, and most of my other stuff as well...like rice, oats, beans, nut butters, etc. but i'm not insane about it, like i won't freak out if i eat something non-organic. life is definitely too short for that!!

Hello! I am new to the blog world and just discovered your blog - it's wonderful! Is it okay if I add you to my blog roll?

Hm.. I don't have experience with either of those blenders so don't take my comment too seriously, but I heard the blendtec is more reliable (quality wise, it never goes bad), and since it is wider rather than narrower+deeper, it's sometimes more convenient. But I have no clue!

And I love your salad! I have no idea what those crackers are but they look delish <3

BOOBABY! Thanks for the shout-out, and I am soooo happy that you are listening to what your body wants and eating wheneva! A SnackFace life is a good one...and so is your delicious high-raw life! I adore it!

I wish I could help with the blender thing. Everyone at VegNews is all about the vitamix, but I've never tested it out myself. Anyway, I hope your Sunday was delicious as well!

Hi Shelby -
I read a review of the blendtec vs. the vitamix in the September/October issue of Cook's Illustrated. They say that the Blendtec turned a smoothie into "thin juice" and it couldn't crush ice. The vitamix did well with crushing, blending, and mixing. It also listed a cheaper alternative (kitchenaid 5 speed blender) for folks that don't use a blender as much - however, from the looks of your daily green smoothie - I think you probably fall into the "uses blender often" category :).

Just an FYI - I don't have any of these blenders, but I saw it in the mag and I thought of you! Good Luck!

That study showing no nutritional improvement in organically grown food is BOGUS. It's the talk of the blog world. The findings of the study were probably "bought". There are other studies that do show the increases in nutrients, not to mention the improvement to our whole world by not having toxic herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers being manufactured and released into our soil, water and air. The other studies on the subject can be found at www.organicconsumers.org, one of my favorite website.

Go Shelby. Happy birthday (belatedly). I've noticed the dark circles under your eyes in your recent photos. I hope you are sleeping better now.
