First up, Amazing Grass review. Saturday morning I mixed one Berry Green Superfood packet with...-1/2 cup blueberries
-1 kiwi
-1 cup water
-handful baby spinach
The verdict? I actually really liked it! It didn't taste earthy to me at all and I loved the berry tang. It blended up very smoothly and the nutrition stats are awesome. It wasn't too sweet either...which is what I was expecting. Would I buy this? Sure, why not. It has tons of superfoods in it and a flavor that I like. I think these products are either hit or miss with people. You either love it or hate it but I think you have to try it before making your decision.
Alongside my smoothie, I made a Granola Bowl with Pbu as my milk and a crumbled Lydia's Cocoa Crunch bar as my granola. I liked this bar a lot better than the Tropical Flavor. It was softer but still crunchy, and had a rich chocolate flavor that paired perfectly with the Pbu.-butter lettuce
-radish
-broccoli
-yellow squash
-carrots
-Apricot BBQ sauce (recipe from V'Con)
It was so colorful and pretty, I almost didn't want to eat it...almost. I also had some toast on the side for some carb-y goodness.
I've been craving oatmeal for dinner this past week so that's what I've been making. This Blueberry Chocolate Almond bowl was just what I was craving.-1/2 cup oats + 1 cup water
-cinnamon + pinch of salt
-1/2 cup blueberries
-1 square Lindt 70% Dark Chocolate
-the last of my Blue Diamond Creamy Homestyle AB *cries*
I've have been obsessed with the last two ingredients. I never crave chocolate but this week has been weird. I like to eat in cold out of the fridge but it was just as delightful in oatmeal. Same goes for the AB, good in oatmeal...even better right out of the jar. This stuff is saltier than most nut butters I've had but I really loved it. It made a perfect pairing with sweet foods as salty/sweet is a favorite combo of mine. I must get more of this ASAP!
What event requires glow jewelry...
Cute children...
Staying up past bedtime...
And sitting in strollers that are way to small for you?
Fireworks of course! Our town has fireworks a little later than the 4th to celebrate Heritage Days. We have a carnival, parade, and other activities to keep busy. I was so glad to finally see them since I didn't on the 4th. I forgot how pretty they are.
Love this picture.
The finale is my favorite part. So many colors and sounds. I love the ones that whistle. It was fun spending time with my family as we don't do much together. There is such an age gap that its hard to do things everyone likes. I was dead tired when I got home that I didn't want to do anything but collapse on the couch. But like a good girl, I took my makeup off, washed my face, and brushed my teeth. Then I feel asleep within 5 seconds of hitting the pillow.
You had to know this was coming. Avocado Toast. My favorite breakfast at the moment. I don't even have to add seasonings or anything...its good just like that.
I also had a Green Smoothie using the Original Green Superfood powder. I used the same combination of fruits, just the plain packet and it was still good. A little more bland but not horrible.
For lunch I made something new, Sunburgers from Ani Phyo's Raw "Cookbook". They are really easy to make and I just put mine out in the sun for a few hours. They were totally dry but the outsides were nice and crispy. I put it in a lettuce "bun" and topped it with ketchup and mustard (not raw, but whatevs). I highly suggest this recipe. The flavor is just perfect and the texture is great. Plus, its way cheaper (and healthier!) than most processed veggie burgers. With it I had some...
Sweet Potato Fr...
I mean, Sweet Potato Fries. Cut thin and cooked until crispy. You better believe I whipped out the ketchup after snapping this picture. Fries without ketchup is a tragedy!Today was my little brother's 8th Birthday! He loves it because every year the parade falls on this day and we always say the parade is just for him. He really is an amazing kid. So smart and funny. He is a little obsessed with wrestling but I love him anyway.
Oh and he almost NEVER wears a shirt. What a guy.
Gotta share the limelight with the other brothers. Here's my 4 year old brother, only blond boy :)As I'm sitting watching the parade, this man sits in front of me and looks straight at me. It took me a bit but realized it was my Uncle, home from Iraq!
He is done there and going to be home for two more weeks until he goes to Alaska where he was originally stationed. No one knew he was coming and we were all just freaking out when he got here.
Time for cake!
For all you non-vegans in Illinois, I highly recommend Portillo's Chocolate Cake. Not at all healthy, but we get it for almost every birthday. When I wasn't a vegan, it was a favorite of mine.
I had something just as decadent, but much healthier for dinner. Oatmeal, this time with blackberries. So yummy.

Stunning family, food, and feline!! :-D
It sounds like a great time! I hope your brother had a great birthday! I really need to give avacado a try again. I did not like it years ago and really have not tried it since. I am so with you on the oatmeal. I really can't go without it. I am always playing with it too. It is such a gret food that can be changed into so many different flavors! Oh, and my little one, he is quite the little devil too! Something about the youngest ones!
This certainly was a mega-post! Everything looks great and it looks like your brother's birthday was a blast! I totally know what you mean about Portillo's chocolate cake- my family goes crazy for it and it was also a favorite of mine in my "pregan" days.
I love that you have oatmeal for dinner! I do that too!! We're too cool for school (I wish)
i don't know if i've seen a blogette who doesn't love the amazing grass products.. I'm very curious to try them! and that almond butter -- i saw it in the stoe but was iffy so i opted for good ol' pb&co (what can i say, i'm a creature of habit!) but after hearing your review i may go for it :)!
lovely photos!! and your bro seems like my kind of man .. i would go shirtless all the time if it was socially acceptable for woman ;)
you are too gorgeous, Shelbs! <3
Love all these photos. I'm interested in trying A.G products as well. Almond butter from bluediamond? Yum!
You're so pretty Shelby!

Wow, that Blueberry Chocolate Almond bowl looks amazing. And you've really sparked my curiosity to try avocado on toast!
Glad the parade & birthday party were a hit :)
Aw, hooray for an uncle home safe from Iraq! And for gratuitous kitten shots :)
I'm drooling over all the chocolate-y oatmeal! And i'm just like you, I love chocolate cold (out of the FREEZER), or warm and melty in a bowl of oats!! Hmmm, wonder what i'll be having later tonight?! haha....
Lovin' BOTH of the sweet p pics, and you are lookin' lovely yourself Shelby! :)
You look great! And if you ever so choose to dress up your avocado toast, I highly suggest mixing it with lemon juice, pepper and salt, and chopped CILANTRO. That's my one way ticket to heaven almost every morning :)

Fab eats as always, and my mom's bff's b-day is on the fourth of July, so she always says the fireworks/parade are for her too :P We've been friends for 18 years (sheesh) so I've heard her do this every year (think jewish jersey yenta ITS MYEE BIRTHDAHEE) :)
I'm glad you had a great weekend and have a great night!
<3 Jenn
Wow-so much going on! I love the idea of chocolate in oatmeal--almost a dessert. And how cool to have fireworks a little later than usual--extend the fun!
I loved all of your pictures girlie! You and your siblings are too cute together! I also love your outfit and necklace!! :)
Family time IS awesome. It's something most people don't realize is as important as it is until it's too late. I am so intrigued by the Sunshine burgers. As a "solar-powered FL girl", that recipe sounds right up my alley!
I know what you mean about being dead after work. This past week has been crazy busy at work. I haven't been able to do anything after getting home but stare off into space while sitting comatose on the sofa!
i like the cacao crunch bar better too. and for a second there i thought you abandoned veganism and actually ate sweet potato! that would be a much bigger tragedy than fries without ketchup! the blueberry chocolate almond bowl looks diviiiiine, by the way. and you're TOO gorgeous in every one of those photos! love you, girl! your brothers are so cute too. mine is 15, and definitely not as precious.
oh goodness, the bros are adorable! and not to mention the hottayyyy next to them!
SP fries...mmmmm

What a fun family weekend :D I didn't know you had THREE brothers- hmm are u officially a saint yet?? SO awesome that your uncle is home too!
Hi, been reading your blog and it is just wonderful!
Your Blueberry chocolate almond bowl picture should be blown up, framed, and hung on the wall...total masterpiece ;)
I am loving the oat mix ins! As far as the family, it is hard when there is a huge age gap. But, the older you get the less it will matter. Adorable pics of you and your lil bro. My sister is 8 years younger than I and we get along better now, 4 hours apart, than we EVER have.
I love it all!!! I agree with you on those Sunburgers, now Excalibur just needs to give us a dehydrator, darn it!
I just feel this happy vibe coming from you Shelby, and I love it! You seem to be so happy and glowing and just living and enjoying life. Don't stop. Ever!
Lindt chocolate is one of the best :)
Your brothers are too cute for words.
How is it possible that I've never added a piece of dark chocolate to my oats? It looks heavenly.

Happy Birthday to your little bro!! I love your pink outfit - cute!!
That PBU/granola bowl sounds absolutely delicious!
Adorable pictures of Sweet Potato (fries), your family, and you of course - you are absolutely stunning, and I love your hair and dress. Looks gorgeous on you!
All of your eats look amazing. I picked up 4 avocados at the grocery store this week instead of my usual 2, just because I CRAVE them when I see your blog...no joke!
Love,
Meg
Aw, that old man is a cutie! And so is Sweet Potato, your little brothers, and yourself!!
I love the square of dark chocolate in the oatmeal bowl. Great idea! And thanks to you, I'm gonna have avocado spread on bagels for breakfast next week...it's already on my shopping list.
The Pbu substitution for milk is genius! And finally, I love Ani's sun burgers. I borrowed my parents dehydrator, but next time, I may try the sun-dried thing.
I adore sweet potatoe.....the kitty and the tater :) Such a doll! I love your little glow party....they are kinda young for the rave parties now aren't they! lol. Your eats look divine as always :)
I still say Sweet Potato & Peanut are a perfect match! :)
